Planning a wedding or elopement on the Isle of Skye is exciting! We have breathtaking views, magical skies, and memories you’ll treasure forever. But when you’re caught up in the romance, it’s easy to forget the practical details.
As a Skye wedding photographer, I’ve seen it all. Over the years, couples have asked me things I wouldn’t have expected, and overlooked questions that could save a lot of stress on the big day. Here’s a handy FAQ-style guide to the things couples often forget to ask, and my tips for getting it right.
1. Do We Need a Permit to Get Married Here?
If you’re planning an elopement or ceremony outdoors, some locations may require permits, especially on private land or in protected areas. Always check in advance, ask your celebrant, and if in doubt, I can point you in the right direction to find the information you need.
2. What About Witnesses?
Even if it’s just the two of you, legally you need witnesses. Some couples forget to organise this, thinking it’s only a formal detail. Consider friends, family, or even your photographer (depending on your ceremony type). Alternatively, if you don’t want any extra people at your ceremony, you could choose to have a non-legal ceremony. It’s an exchange of vows, but without a legal marriage which you can do at another time.
