Isle of Skye Elopement Photographer

Forget What a Wedding Is Supposed to Look Like

What if your wedding day wasn’t about seating plans, schedules and keeping everyone else happy? What if it was simply about the two of you, somewhere breathtaking, getting married in a way that actually feels like you?

The Isle of Skye is the perfect place to begin married life, instead of having a wedding day

You can say your vows beside a loch, beneath the mountains, on a beach or on a cliff. Skye is wonderfully wild, a destination for the adventurous and the romantic, and where your only uninvited guests are likely to have four legs and a woolly coat.

Your elopement can be simple. Just the two of you, with whatever wedding clothes you choose, walking boots, champagne, sandwiches in the car afterwards… There really aren’t many rules. It’s your wedding, and when you elope to Skye, you get to decide what it looks like.

How much does it cost to elope to the Isle of Skye? I break it all down for you – just click the link below.

Without Taking Over Your Wedding Day

I’m Penny, an Isle of Skye elopement photographer, and I actually live here on Skye.

I specialise in smaller weddings and elopements for couples who want beautiful photographs without turning their entire wedding day into a photoshoot. I’ll photograph the moments that matter, help you feel comfortable in front of the camera and take you to some wonderful places for portraits afterwards.

I can also help with locations, timings and the practicalities of getting around Skye, because knowing the island makes an enormous difference when you’re planning a wedding here. When you book with me, I’ll send you my full location guide. In the meantime, have a read of my blog – there’s so much information in there. And LOTS of beautiful photographs too!

If you’re still figuring out how your day might look, these guides will help you plan every part of your elopement:

Your Skye Elopement

Your elopement doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s.

Some couples want to exchange vows somewhere completely secluded with nobody else around. Some bring their children. Some even bring their dog!

Some wear full wedding clothes and bring flowers and champagne, while others keep things simple. There’s no right way to elope. There’s only what’s right for you.

My approach to being your elopement photographer is much the same. Every elopement is unique, and no two galleries of photos will ever be the same.

I’ll give you direction when you need it, but I’m not going to spend your wedding day endlessly directing you into poses. I’ll photograph your ceremony, the laughter, the hugs and the celebration. We’ll create some beautiful portraits in the Skye landscape.

Two Hours is PLENTY of Time for Photos

If you’re planning a traditional, big wedding, you may look for a photographer who will give you 10 hours of coverage. But when you elope, everything is different.

Many of the couples I photograph choose an elopement because they don’t want their wedding day to become an enormous production. For most Skye elopements, two hours gives us plenty of time, for plenty of photographs.

In two hours, I will photograph your ceremony, capture the moments immediately afterwards and then take you away for portraits at one or two carefully chosen locations.

That means you get a beautiful photographic story of your wedding without spending the whole day with a camera following you around.

You’re married!

The rest of the day belongs to you.

“Penny was wonderful to work with.”

Where Can We Elope on Skye?

Almost anywhere!

One of the wonderful things about getting married in Scotland is that your legal ceremony doesn’t have to take place inside a licensed wedding venue. And that means you have some spectacular possibilities!

The Quiraing gives you enormous dramatic landscapes. Sligachan has mountains, water and easy access. The Fairy Pools are beautiful if you choose your timing carefully. There are beaches, lochs, cliffs and quieter corners of the island that you may never have come across while planning your trip online.

The most famous location isn’t automatically the best location for your elopement.

I’ll help you think about what you want the day to feel like, not simply which Skye landmark you’ve seen most often on Instagram.

“A first-class wedding photographer, Penny captured the spirit of our day perfectly. We met Penny the day of our wedding .. she was fun, relaxed, and warm in personality which suited us wonderfully … ”

Planning an Elopement To the Isle of Skye? The Quick Answers

Yes. Scotland allows legal outdoor wedding ceremonies, which means you can marry amongst the Skye landscape rather than needing to use a licensed wedding venue. You’ll need to complete the appropriate legal paperwork and use an authorised celebrant, but getting legally married outdoors on Skye is absolutely possible.

Two hours works beautifully for most Isle of Skye elopements. It gives me time to photograph your ceremony and then take you to one or two nearby locations for portraits afterwards. If you’re planning getting-ready photographs, several distant locations or a longer celebration, we can talk about whether you’ll need more time.

No. In fact, I’m very happy to help with that. Tell me what sort of scenery you love, how adventurous you’d like to be and whether accessibility is important, and I can suggest places that could work beautifully.

There isn’t one perfect season. Spring and autumn can be quieter, summer gives us wonderfully long days, while winter can be beautiful but requires considerably more flexibility, and a sense of adventure! The best time depends on the kind of experience you want, and how enthusiastic you are about Scottish weather!

We work with it! Skye’s weather changes quickly and rain, mist, wind and dramatic skies can all look incredible in photographs. I’ll keep an eye on conditions and we’ll adjust our plans if necessary. Your comfort and safety always come first.

An elopement really is super intimate – a way to escape guests, planning and the other trappings that come with a wedding. I consider an elopement to be just the two of you, perhaps with your children (or your dogs!) and no-one else. You will need witnesses for your wedding ceremony, and I can help you to find people who would be willing, or you can ask your own to come along. It’s up to you!

I’m not a wedding planner, but I am someone who lives and works on Skye. I can help with suggesting photography locations, sensible timings, travel between locations and what is realistically achievable during your photography coverage. I can also point you towards useful local information and suppliers. I do have a wedding and elopement GUIDE that you can read through, and when we chat, I’ll share some of t

My two-hour wedding and elopement photography package is £725. It’s designed to give us time for your ceremony and then photographs at one or two locations afterwards. If you’re planning something slightly different, get in touch and tell me what you have in mind, and we can work it out together.
