Choosing Your Wedding Photography Style: What Style Of Wedding Photography Works On The Isle Of Skye?
So, you’re planning a wedding or elopement on the Isle of Skye? Skye is pure magic, with its wild landscapes, ancient castles and wonderful weather. It’s the perfect location for your fairytale wedding!
Now I’d like to talk about something important: your wedding photography style. There’s more than one way to capture your big day, and while you’re shopping around and looking at different photographers, style is going to be a really important part of your decision. What style of wedding photography works on the Isle of Skye?
I’m a wedding and elopement photographer here on Skye, and I specialise in documentary-style photography which gives you a beautiful and real record of your wedding day. But before I tell you all about what you can expect from me, here’s a bit more on different photography styles that are really popular at the moment.

Styled Photography: The Traditional Classic
If you love a bit of tradition and want wedding photos that look straight out of a storybook, styled photography might be for you. Traditionally posed portraits, elegant compositions, and a perfectly fluffed dress in every image. A traditional photographer will guide you into flattering poses, adjust your bouquet just so, and make sure every hair is in place. It’s polished, it’s beautiful, and it’s got that classic, timeless wedding feel.
I include a little bit of this in my photography. So you will always get a couple of posed portraits in your gallery of images! These are great to print big for your wall, to give to relatives, and as a reminder of how perfect your day was! But, this is just a part of what I include. I want to tell your whole story, and document your special day… every moment of it!

Editorial Photography: a cool magazine vibe!
Editorial photography is very en-vogue at the moment. It’s perfect for couples who want to feel like they’ve just stepped into a fashion shoot for a glossy magazine. It’s all about drama, angles, and those drop-dead gorgeous detail shots of your shoes, rings, and florals. Editorial photographers use flash to create hard light – bright highlights and deep shadows – for an edgy vibe. With moody lighting, bold compositions, and high-fashion styling, editorial photography makes every moment look like it belongs in a luxury magazine.

Documentary Photography: Real, Raw & Storytelling
And now, we get to my style – documentary photography. My approach to photographing your day is all about keeping things real. We have fun with me gently guiding you into poses that look and feel natural. No awkward posing, no standing still for hours while your photographer fusses over every tiny detail. Instead, it’s about capturing you, in the moment, as it happens.
Ultimately, I want to tell the story of your wedding day! Of course I will capture the details you have worked hard on – if you have chosen flowers, clothes, shoes and a location that feel perfect to you, then I will make sure to include them in your gallery! But I want to tell your story. From your walk, hand in hand, to the celebrant. The looks you exchange with each other. The laughs you have as you explore Skye’s gorgeous landscape and even hiding from a downpour of the weather is unkind!
These are the moments that make your wedding yours, and that’s what I love to photograph. It’s about the story, the emotions, and the incredible Skye landscape that makes everything feel a little extra magical.

Why Documentary Photography is Perfect for Skye
Let me be honest with you – I don’t believe that Skye is the place for a gallery of stiff, perfectly-posed wedding portraits. It’s a place for adventure, romance, and epic moments. My style of photography means that you can fully experience your day while I quietly document it all. So, instead of worrying about perfect poses, you can soak it all in. And years from now, when you look back at your photos, you won’t just see what your wedding looked like—you’ll remember exactly how it felt.
So, if you’re all about natural, emotion-filled, storytelling wedding photos with a stunning Skye backdrop, I’d love to capture your day. Let’s make some magic together!
