What To Expect When You Elope to the Isle of Skye
Are you dreaming of saying “I do” in the dramatic landscapes of the Isle of Skye? An elopement on Skye is a unique and unforgettable experience tailored entirely to you and your partner. Every elopement I photograph on the island is completely unique, which is one of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer on Skye, here’s a glimpse into what a typical elopement day might look like if you choose to elope to Skye.
1. Morning: Preparation and Excitement
Your day begins with excitement in the air as you prepare for the adventure ahead. Whether you’re staying in a cosy cottage, a luxury hotel, or even at The Bothy (our charming little Air BnB), the morning is all about taking time to savour the moment.
Many couples enjoy a relaxed start to the day with a breakfast and some quiet time together. Hair and makeup artists can come to you, and I can recommend some if you want, or you can take the time to prepare yourself without help. The morning can also be a chance to exchange special gifts or letters to each other.
2. Late Morning: The Ceremony
When it’s time to tie the knot, you’ll head to the location you’ve chosen for your ceremony. Skye offers so many options, from cliffs overlooking the sea to beautiful beaches and castles. I can be your local guide as well as your photographer – I live on the island, so if you want to know the most beautiful hidden spots then I can help to share the secrets of Skye!
Some couples opt for a handfasting ceremony steeped in Celtic tradition, while others keep it simple with a heartfelt exchange of vows. Whatever your preference, this part of the day is about celebrating your love in a way that is perfect for you.

3. Early Afternoon: Portraits and Exploration
After the ceremony, we’ll take time to capture some beautiful moments of you together with some stunning photographs. I’ll guide you to some of the island’s hidden gems that perfectly suit your vibe.
Want dramatic cliffs? We’ll head to places like the Quiraing or Neist Point. Prefer lush greenery? Let’s explore a secluded glen or wander by a peaceful waterfall. Each location tells a different story and we will find the place that’s most perfect for you!
4. Late Afternoon: Celebrating Together
With the formalities complete, it’s time to celebrate! Many couples enjoy a picnic if the weather is suitable. You may share a bottle of champagne, or even eat a mini wedding cake with a stunning backdrop. If are the more adventurous type, then I can recommend a boat trip or even a hike to a gorgeous spot a little out of the way of the crowds. You might want to change out of your wedding shoes first though!
If you’re staying on the island then you might decide to return there for a private, intimate dinner, or perhaps you’ll book a table at one of Skye’s incredible restaurants to toast your new lives together with fresh seafood and fine wine.
5. Evening: Sunset and Reflection
As the day comes to an end, there’s nothing quite like watching the sun set over Skye with your partner by your side. Whether you’re on a quiet beach or on top of a windswept hill, the last moments of your wedding day are perfect for reflecting on everything you have together, and everything you still have to look forward to.
