A Winter Elopement on Skye could be the Best Thing Ever!

Some people think that eloping to Skye in the winter is a crazy idea. The weather is unpredictable at best, it’s cold and not much is open. A winter elopement on Skye may not seem the best plan.

I strongly disagree. Winter here is beautiful. Truly beautiful, and a really good choice for a winter wedding or elopement. OK, so the weather may be challenging, but if you are the sort of people who want to get hitched away from it all, in amazing scenery, and think Scotland is the place for you, you have already considered this. Skye is warmer than much of the Scottish Highlands and therefore snow, when it happens, rarely stays. It can be quite dark, but so much more dramatic for your photos.

The best bit is that the island is quiet. You can have pretty much any of our stunning locations to yourself. The celebrants who conduct ceremonies have some flexibility to change locations right up to the day before so that any weather nasties can be catered for or we can move indoors or that part of the day. Much of the island’s accommodation is cheaper at this time of year, if you avoid Christmas and Hogmanay, so if you are on a budget make the most of it. There are no midges nibbling at you either, and I can assure you these tiny beasties can make any elopement to Skye a challenge without the right protection!

The key to a winter elopement on Skye is making use of  local knowledge. Where the sheltered spots are, how to stay out of the wind, where the sun will shine, what to wear, when is the best time of day for your chosen spot… The wonderful folk who supply those all important trimmings, flowers, a piper, cake etc, are a whole lot less busy too.
