Best Places to Elope on the Isle of Skye – Hidden Gems & Iconic Locations

what location should you choose for your isle of skye elopement?
Are you thinking about where to elope on the Isle of Skye?
This is the point you could fall down a bit of a rabbit hole – googling, searching. Pinterest boards and AI opinions. You start with a quick search, see a few famous spots… and before you know it, you have twelvety million images saved in a dozen different places, and the overwhelm is real. The beautiful landscapes start to merge into each other, and you can’t see how you will make a decision.
My advice, as someone who photographs AND lives on Skye, is that it is full of incredible places to get married, but the right location for your elopement isn’t just about what looks good in photos.
It’s about how it feels when you’re standing there. It’s about what’s going on around you, as well as the photos you take home with you. Because photos are important – trust me, I’m a photographer – but they are a visual record of a moment and an emotion. It helps you to remember how you felt in that minute, when you started the rest of your lives together.
If you’re planning an Isle of Skye elopement, this guide will help you find a location that feels right for you, not just one that looks good on Instagram.

Iconic Places to Elope on the Isle of Skye
I’ll start with the places you’ve probably already seen. The places that are on everyone’s Skye bucket list. They’re popular for a reason. They’re dramatic, beautiful, and very recognisably “Skye”.
The Old Man of Storr
This is a group of tall, rugged rock formations rising out of the landscape, with views that stretch for miles.
It’s an incredible place for an elopement, especially early in the morning when the light is soft and the crowds haven’t arrived yet.
It’s worth knowing that to get to the viewpoints, you’ll need to make a steady walk uphill, and it can get REALLY busy later in the day, so timing is everything. This is somewhere I recommend in the early morning, before the tourists have finished their breakfast!
The Quiraing
This has to be one of the most dramatic landscapes on the island, with a different landscape in every direction. There are rolling hills, craggy cliffs and winding roads. It feels like stepping into another world.
It works beautifully for couples who want that epic, adventurous feel. Want to get married on the edge of a cliff, with mountains behind? This is your place.
It’s worth knowing that the weather can change quickly here, and it’s often (around 90% of the time!) windy. Depending on your outlook, you can embrace this as part of the fun, or see it as a challenge. It’s up to you! Another busy location, particularly in the summer months, so you may get a small audience watching you if you time your ceremony for the busier part of the day!
I have a whole blog post guide to eloping to the Quiraing

Fairy Pools
This is the place you have seen on Insta. There are clear blue pools with the Cuillin mountains in the background. Waterfalls and water you can wade through. A popular choice for couples who love water, movement and a slightly more relaxed feel.
BUT – it’s worth knowing that this is one of the busiest spots on Skye. There are often queues to get into the car park, and in busy periods, there are people EVERYWHERE. So if you want somewhere remote, this is not for you! Also, the waterfalls that you see in photographs are actually pretty small. No more than a couple of feet high – but they are made to look bigger with good angles in photos! If privacy is important to you, this might not be the best fit.
Hidden Gems on Skye – not the obvious choice but could be perfect!
Some of the most meaningful elopements I’ve photographed haven’t happened in the “famous” places at all. They’ve happened in the coves that the tourists haven’t discovered. On the cliffs that are off the main roads. in a space that’s just around the corner from everyone else, but just as beautiful. When you are away from the main routes, it feels like the whole island belongs to you.
These aren’t always places you’ll find on Google.
They’re:
- Quiet beaches with no one else around
- Hillsides covered in heather
- Clifftops where you can hear nothing but the sea
These are often the places couples remember most, and the places that I will recommend if you are asking my opinion.
Eloping to the Isle of Skye isn’t about ticking off a location because you’ve seen it on Pinterest. It’s about having a wedding day that you will love, that marks the beginning of your life together.
If you’re not sure where to choose for your Isle of Skye elopement, then I can help. Finding a location that fits your day is something I help with all the time.

Coastal Elopement Locations
If you’re drawn to the sea (and a lot of couples are), Skye has no shortage of options. We can give you:
- Dramatic cliffs with waves crashing below
- A quiet cove where you can dip your toes in the water after your ceremony
- Wide, open beaches that feel completely isolated
Coastal locations work perfectly for:
- Sunset ceremonies
- A relaxed, barefoot walk through the sand
- The wild, windswept feel Skye does so well
Just be prepared for a bit of wind… and possibly a dramatic hairstyle by the end of it!

Mountain and Highland Locations
For something a little more rugged and adventurous, the inland landscapes on Skye are just as incredible.
You can elope to somewhere with
- Rolling hills and vast open spaces
- Views across the Cuillin mountain range
- Quiet footpaths where you can walk together without seeing another person
These locations are perfect if you want your day to feel:
- Calm
- Private
- surrounded by nature
They also tend to be a little more flexible when it comes to timing and light.

How to Choose the Right Elopement Location
Most couples don’t consider a specific location when they first decide to elope to the Isle of Skye. So putting some time into planning now, will make sure you get the elopement that you are dreaming of.
Choosing where to elope on the Isle of Skye isn’t just about picking the most dramatic backdrop. It’s about choosing somewhere that works for you.
What to consider:
Privacy
Do you want a quiet, intimate moment? Or do you prefer to be around a crowd?

Accessibility
Some locations involve a walk (sometimes uphill, sometimes in the wind). Others are much easier to reach. I know of some completely beautiful spots just 3 minutes from an access road!
There’s no right or wrong – it just depends what kind of day you want, and your physical ability.
Weather
Skye weather changes quickly, and some locations are more exposed than others.
Having a bit of flexibility (and a backup plan in case the weather turns) makes all the difference.
The Overall Feel
Do you want something that feels dramatic and epic? Or do you prefer quiet and intimate? Perhaps your vibe is more adventurous?
Your location helps shape the whole experience. I can advise on the right places.

Still Not Sure Where to Elope on Skye?
That’s OK! Most couples don’t have a fully formed plan when they first get in touch with me. They have a feeling of what they want, but aren’t quite sure how that translates into a location on the Isle of Skye.
And that’s where having someone local – like me – helps more than you might expect.
If you’re planning an Isle of Skye elopement and want some guidance, I’m always happy to suggest locations based on what you’re looking for, the practicalities, and the time of year that you are visiting the island.
