Unlocking the Magic of Eilean Donan Castle for The Perfect Portrait Session

I’d like to introduce Debby. She is a goddess of a woman and her story is one that I’d love to share.

Back in 1997, while in an unhappy marriage, Debby visited a gallery in California, and fell in love with a print of the Eilean Donan castle in blue hues. She saw it as an escape from her situation, took one look, and said “When I’m brave enough to leave, I’m going to go here one day.” This sparked her desire to visit – 26 years ago! That print has been hanging on the wall of every place Debby has lived since then, as a reminder of her dreams.

Unfortunately, Debby had a series of sad events in her life that squashed her soul and stopped her from spreading her wings and following her dreams. She very sadly lost all her close family over the years, and suffered from depression. It’s been a long and painful journey, but a year ago Debby realised that she was only existing in her life, and wanted to start living it.

She initially planned a couple of photographs in front of the castle, in jeans and a sweater, but we couldn’t let that be the highlight of her visit! So, with some gentle encouragement, she not only agreed to but totally embraced the flying dress shoot!

She said that those of us who helped to plan her visit, “made the experience beyond anything I could have imagined, and am so eternally grateful for everything. Just can’t express enough how very touched and happy I feel, so again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you all!!! The way everything worked out with the Santorini Floating Dress AND being on the castle grounds surpassed anything I could ever have dreamed!!!”

I both live and work as a photographer on the Isle of Skye, and I am intimately familiar with the island and of course with Eilean Donan Castle. When you choose me as your photographer, this gives you a distinct advantage. My local knowledge enables me to uncover hidden gems and unique vantage points, ensuring that your portraits capture not just the castle’s grandeur but the essence of the surrounding landscapes. When someone like Debby wants a life-affirming portrait, I will make sure that the session is breathtaking!

What’s next for Debby? Well, her visit to Skye was just the beginning of her new adventures. She has now booked a trip to Iceland to coincide with her Birthday next month, and she will hopefully be in a glass igloo, beneath the northern lights, as she celebrates the new woman that is emerging from her past. I hope that she grabs life with both hands and has every wonderful experience that she deserves!

Choosing Eilean Donan Castle for your portraits is not just about aesthetics; it’s about creating an environment where you can relax and enjoy the moment. With the castle as our backdrop, you can bask in the romance of the location while I work to create the erfect gallery of images. It’s a unique experience that combines the grandeur of a historic landmark with the intimacy of a personal portrait session.

Eilean Donan is situated at the meeting point of three sea lochs, on the west coast of Scotland. It is next to the picturesque village of Dornie on the main tourist route to the Isle of Skye.

If you book a portrait photography session with me at Eilean Donan Castle, make sure to allow time to explore the area too. From the Castle you can walk to Dornie at the mouth of Loch Long, see the Cuillin mountain range of Skye in the distance across Loch Alsh or look to the head of Loch Duich towards the dramatic Five Sisters of Kintail.

Travel a short distance to visit the outstanding brochs of Glenelg built over 1500 years ago, wander through the Lochalsh Woodland Garden at Balmacara or climb up to the Falls of Glomach. The Isle of Skye is easy to visit either by ferry at Glenelg or by bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh. For more information about the castle, visit the website https://www.eileandonancastle.com/
