Sunshine and Smiles – Wedding Photos on Skye

Julia and Scott were looking for stunning scenery and dramatic skies when they chose to have their wedding photos taken on Skye… but The Misty Isle was having none of it.

When we met to discuss the shoot at the lovely Viewfield House Country Hotel in Portree, the weather was pretty dreadful. It was not even wild and romantic, just wet and dreich, but Scott and Julia were prepared for this and ready to embrace its challenges. We chatted about locations and decided that Elgol ticked all the boxes as they live on the coast in Southern Alabama and the sea is an important part of their lives. I gave them the usual brief about sensible shoes and the perils of midges and we chatted about flowers, the importance of hairspray and the need for rain coats. As it turned out only fifty percent of this was relevant. The sun shone, the rain coats stayed in the car and the midges were conspicuous by their absence. The flowers by Simply Flowers were perfect, the wind was indeed hair raising and the rocks would have been impossible in Julias gorgeous shoes – so I was half right!

I knew we were going to get along when I had a message on the day of the shoot to say that they were just having a sneaky wee dram in a bar in Broadford and would I like to join them. Tempting as it was to stay we hit the road and took in all the sights along the Elgol road, the whole time the sun was getting brighter and brighter, and so were the smiles. Elgol looked amazing (nothing new there) and the sea was an incredible blue. To be fair it was considerably more chilly than Alabama, but I think the pre shoot whiskies helped a little there!

I like to give all my couples  a few pictures to look at on the day and Julia’s reacton?  She said, “They brought tears to my eyes!! Today was an experience…” followed by a second email, entitled “Never Mind Tears” which said “I was crying!”

Here’s what we got up to:
