Five Tips to Avoid Your Wedding being a Washout
Rain on your wedding day? It’s not always possible to avoid, especially in The Highlands. Here are some tips to help you plan for it.
Have an Indoor Back Up Plan
Getting married outside is one of the many appealing aspects of a wedding on The Isle of Skye, but sometimes (not as often as you might think) the weather is just not your friend. Some hotels will charge you a fee to have your wedding inside, even if you area. guest, but ask what those charges are and have a room in reserve. If you are staying in self catering accommodation you could marry there. Just chat with your celebrant to let them know that you might have a Plan B for rain on your wedding day. I offer my couples the chance to split their shoot time so that they can have just the ceremony and then the portrait shoot another day, if possible.

Have your Hair and Make Up Weather Proof
The hair and makeup artists here on Skye know a thing or two about how to keep you looking glamorous no matter what the sky throws at you! They are listed here. If you are doing your own think about how your hair will behave on a wet or windy day. Lots of hair spray is pretty essential. Choose a waterproof mascara (handy if you are likely to cry too!). I advise a good fixer spray to keep your carefully applied make up where you need it to be.
Keep Calm
There really is nothing you can do to avoid rain on your wedding day. I wish we could control it! As long as you have contingencies in place you can keep the impact to a minimum, but don’t let it ruin your special day. Go with it… it can make for some great pictures!
Dress for The Weather
Make sure you have waterproof coats and shoes that won’t ruin. I make sure my couples are as dry as possible in between shots and only ask for coats to come at the last moment. No-one can see wellies under a long dress! Umbrellas can work here, but sometimes they are a victim to the wind, but it’s a good idea to have a couple of large, sturdy ones to hand.
Go For It
You can’t avoid rain on your wedding day, if it’s going to happen it will. I can often split the shoot to miss the worst weather for portraits but your ceremony can’t be moved. Just go with it and have fun anyway!
