Isle of Skye elopement locations include beaches, mountains and waterfalls by Isle of Skye Wedding Photographer Penny Hardie

An Elopement in Portree on The Misty Isle of Skye

Skye is known as The Misty Isle and in the middle of August this year it was living up to its name. Katrina and Dan made the most of a break in restrictions in the summer to gather some friends and head north to have their top secret elopement in Portree.

As for many people, plans were constantly changing. Firstly, their original accommodation was not available to them. Then their witnesses were living in a locked down area of England (thankfully able to travel for weddings only) and so they left all their plans to the last possible minute. Heather at Bee Bonnie Bridal ensured Katrina looked amazing and I collected them from their bed and breakfast to take them through town to meet with the registrar.

The mist had been covering much of the island that morning, but in Portree it wasn’t intending to shift in the afternoon, despite the sun’s best efforts to break through. At the last minute Dan and Katrina decided not to hold their ceremony on one of the high hills above The Cuillin Hills Hotel, where they were having dinner. Instead, the opted to head down to the small beach and make the most of the atmosphere created by the thick mist. There were boats barely in view and the light was amazing. In one direction bright sunlight and in the other cool mist.

After celebrating their elopement in Portree with some bubbles down on the beach we left their friends to sample the hotel hospitality. We headed to Sligachan for some waterfall action, and a cooling paddle in the river. Afterwards they headed back for champagne on the lawn overlooking the harbour and a chance to relax before dinner.
