A Moody Day for an Elopement on Skye
Hollie and Jonathan left the heat and humidity of Mississippi and eloped to a damp and misty Skye.
They brought with them Jonathan’s sister and his cousin and his wife and headed to The Duisdale House Hotel for their ceremony before we headed off on a tour of the Sleat peninsula for photographs. It turned out to be a long day. Their guests’ luggage did not arrive at the same time as they did and so Jonathan got up at 2am to travel with them, all the way back to Inverness, to collect their bags, which contained their outfits. They arrived back to the hotel in time for breakfast and time to prepare for the big day ahead. Hollie had hair and makeup with the amazing Heather from Bee Bonnie Beauty, and when I arrived the girls were making themselves posies to match the gorgeous bridal bouquet from Donald at Loch Duich Plants.
We set Jonathan up in the warm lounge to wait for Hollie and to get his reaction when he first saw her in her beautiful dress. As soon as she walked in everyone had a tear in their eye! The ceremony was held in front of the roaring fire and relayed back to the USA for anyone who could get up early enough to watch via the internet. More tears followed a they exchanged vows and then the newly weds were toasted with champagne before we headed outside to the newly refurbished hotel garden for some formal group shots. The the walking boots and rain proofs went on for our tour of the south of Skye.
We chose the Sleat peninsula for pictures as it’s quieter than many other parts of the island and we had every location we visited to ourselves. Everyone had a great sense of humour about the weather, which was not great, but certainly added some mood and mystery to the pictures, and laughter rang out where ever we were. We walked, clambered and climbed and took in as many of the sights that we could.
I should also give a special thanks to Sophia for her help and for taking some great pictures!
