A Fairytale Elopement on the Isle of Skye

The windswept landscapes, ancient castles, and mystical allure of the Isle of Skye have long been a magnet for those seeking a touch of magic for their special day. Imagine an intimate elopement, where love is the main character, the mountains are the witnesses, and a cozy Bothy becomes the backdrop for a tale spun in the heart of nature.

Andrea and Ricky, a couple from Vancouver, embarked on a romantic journey to Skye, where they planned to tie the knot! Perhaps fate brought us together! Andrea and Ricky discovered the quaint charm of The Bothy, my hidden gem nestled on the Isle of Skye available for rent on Airbnb. Intrigued by the prospect of a cozy retreat, they reached out to to me to book, and to ask if I knew of a wedding photographer who could capture their special day! Well.. that was the beginning of a magical journey for them.

I wanted to make their stay and their big day even more special with a few extra touches. I made sure that their day began with bubbles and sweetness, by giving them a gift of champagne, and delicious cupcakes from Skye Petals Cakery.

The chosen location for the ceremony was nothing short of a fairytale setting – Dunscaith Castle, standing proudly and overlooking the majestic Cuillin mountains. This is a place steeped in history and once home to a warrior queen! It seemed perfect for this lovely couple.

The heartfelt ceremony was conducted by Humanist Celebrant, Laura Gillespie. Two witnesses travelled from the north of the island to join in the celebration! After the ceremony we went to the beach to catch the tide and paddle in the sea.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds spent some time together on the beach, chatting and celebrating their new life together, before heading out to the luxurious Duisdale House Hotel, conveniently located just opposite The Bothy. A special dinner awaited them, a celebration of love and commitment.

When they got back that evening, they found I’d decorated The Bothy for them with bunting and confetti!

And so, against the backdrop of Skye’s breathtaking landscapes, Andrea and Ricky’s elopement unfolded like a fairytale – a harmonious blend of love, laughter, and the cosy home from home that is The Bothy. This story isn’t just about a couple who decided to say “I do” in a faraway land; it’s about the collaboration of locals, the magic of Skye, and the seamless fusion of a cozy retreat and a photographer’s lens.
