Joshua’s Dragon

Joshua’s Dragon

Joshua’s mum and dad have taken out a package with me to photograph him at key stages during his first year. For his six month shoot he brought his gorgeous dragon to the studio in Upton Grey to join in the fun.   We have arranged four shoots for Joshua from bump to aged one and so far he has been a star all the way through! I love this kind of photography as I get to see my clients grow and their personalities develop. The last time he was photographed with Big Bear you could hardly see him!  ... read more
Double Trouble!

Double Trouble!

Caspar and James came to the studio to have their pictures taken for their dad’s birthday present. It’s funny how often children don’t behave the way their parents expect – James hated the flash and Caspar just loved the whole experience, even wrestling me out of the way so that he could take the pictures, which is no mean feat for a 15 month old! Mum was convinced that Caspar would hate it. It soon became clear that my very limited toy collection had lots of appeal but by far the favourite was an old wooden apple crate which made for some fun, simple portraits that I hope their dad will... read more
An Angel in the Studio

An Angel in the Studio

For a special Mother’s Day present I decided to get creative in the studio and fling some flour. Rosie’s mum loves previous pictures I have taken of her dancing and I thought it would be fun to try something a little different. There are lots of photographs on the internet of dancers with flour. The fine powder show movement without blur and can have a very magical effect. Due to the size of my studio we were unable to have Rosie jumping to her full extent and decided on a quieter feel to the shots and keeping the focus on her face. I left flour on  the floor  and added  grain to give it a ‘work shop’ feeling and kept editing down to a minimum. Getting the flour to fall in the right shapes meant that some of the arm movements we needed were not technically ballet correct. The angel wings took quite a bit of practice but the skirt was the result of me taking the shot too early, but I really like the simplicity of it. Using flour can be quite dangerous as it is easy to breathe in and so we had limited time in a small space, but I think we will make someone’sMother’s Day... read more
Making a Splash

Making a Splash

One of the most popular studio shoots I do is the Paint Splash. I provide non toxic acrylic paint, brushes, an easel, a canvas and a space that can get as messy as kids dare for an hour. There is a line which parents police to ensure that paint stays in all the right places, and which I sit behind to take pictures of the mayhem. What always make me laugh is how much mum and dad want to get involved, and I find that I am constantly asking them to move out of the picture! Only once have I had a little girl taking part that didn’t like getting covered in paint, although you would never know from the pictures. Here we did a family ‘before and after’. I knew when mum phoned to book it and said that she had bought T shirts for herself and dad as well that this was going to be a family affair!... read more

“United States”

The wedding of Erin and Joe saw my first wedding this year. They travelled from South Carolina where they live to Joe’s home in Somerset and chose the stunning Ham Hill for the ceremony and reception. The weather was kind and we made the most of the scenery!

The White Dress Project #1

The White Dress Project #1

I love a simple white dress and have decided that this year I shall be making a project out of them. Excluding weddings I shall be using models, friends and kids to put together a series of pictures with a white dress as the common theme. The plan is to try and make them all quite different: studio, outdoor, lifestyle… who knows! Thank you to my gorgeous models so far, Iris, Donna Rhian and Lulu Lockhart.

My Gang

My Gang

It’s been ages since I took pictures of my little family, and as the bluebells are simply breath taking this year I took my camera out for a walk with Digby and Jess.

Basingstoke Junior Bison Awards Night

Basingstoke Junior Bison Awards Night

I sponsor the local junior ice hockey team by being their official photographer, providing team and player head shots. This year I attended the annual awards ceremony to capture the very smart looking players, looking proud at their achievements. It was very moving to see the coaches brimming with tears of pride and emotion as they handed out trophies and medals to their players, and a great night was had by all.

Buttercups Everywhere!

Buttercups Everywhere!

I took one of my favourite models, Melissa Tongue, out to play in the huge fields of buttercups near me. Of course I took the opportunity to shoot for my White Dress Project too. We also moved into the woods top pose with a tree stump that has been crying out to me to be used in a shoot. I was very ably assisted by my brother, Al, and we both managed to get some great shots. I hope you enjoy the results!
